Fixel is a new typeface created by MacPaw, a company that believes technology should enhance lives. Fixel took inspiration from MacPaw’s beloved cats, Fixel and Hoover, and was designed in collaboration with renowned type foundry AlphaBravo.
Fixel exists in two styles – Text for body text and Display for titles/short texts. It includes nine weights ranging from Thin to Black for both styles. The typeface aims to have a human touch through features like distinctive letters while still being suitable for large bodies of text by avoiding excessive expression.
Fixel contains over 11,000 unique symbols, including a complete Ukrainian layout with alternative Cyrillic symbols to highlight Ukraine’s identity. Historical Ukrainian art, graphics, and folk traditions inspired many symbols.
The typeface was created with Ukraine in mind to empower Ukrainian designers and foster meaningful communication within an authentic cultural context. MacPaw hopes Fixel aids the development of unique visual environments in Ukrainian design. Fixel is a versatile new typeface developed by MacPaw to serve global audiences and strengthen Ukrainian cultural expression through a design that balances technical and human qualities.
