Nabla is a really cool new font called designed by Arthur Reinders Folmer and engineered by Just van Rossum. It uses a new font format called COLRv1 that allows for some awesome effects like gradients, highlights and shadows right inside the font file.

The letters have a retro video game look inspired by isometric cubes. But it’s more than just pixel letters – the shapes are suitable for modern technology too. Best of all, it’s free and open source so anyone can use it.

Currently Nabla only works in Chrome but it will be supported in other browsers soon. The COLRv1 format lets you customize colors easily or use preset palettes. You can also adjust highlights and how extruded the letters appear.

It’s definitely worth checking out if you want a unique typographic element for your designs. The level of control and vibrant effects possible are really impressive.
