Jakob Nielsen, a renowned figure in user experience (UX) design, has recently contributed several articles discussing the evolving relationship between Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). In his piece titled “SEO Is Dead, Long Live AI-Summarized Answers,” Nielsen argues that the traditional practices of SEO are becoming obsolete as AI systems increasingly provide users with direct, summarized answers to their queries. This shift diminishes the reliance on traditional search engines and, consequently, the effectiveness of conventional SEO strategies.
In a follow-up article, “Website Survival Without SEO in the Age of AI,” Nielsen addresses the challenges content creators face in maintaining website traffic amidst the rise of AI-driven information delivery. He emphasizes the importance of permission marketing, particularly through email newsletters, as a more reliable method for reaching audiences directly. Nielsen suggests that building and nurturing an email subscriber base can help content creators retain control over their audience engagement, mitigating the impact of reduced search engine traffic.
